What is Stay@Gouwzee?
Stay@Gouwzee is a self-contained holiday apartment in the historic centre of Monnickendam, the Netherlands. Guests have a private entrance, a private kitchen, a private bathroom and a private roof terrace. The apartment is rented to one party at a time, with no shared spaces.

Stay@Gouwzee is located at Middendam 4, 1141 BC Monnickendam, in the historic centre of Monnickendam in Waterland, North Holland. Amsterdam is about 14 kilometres away, Volendam about 5 kilometres and Marken about 6 kilometres.

The Stay@Gouwzee apartment measures 51 m². It includes a living area with a dining table for 4, a private kitchen, a sleeping area, a mezzanine, a private bathroom with a separate toilet and a private roof terrace.
How many people can stay at Stay@Gouwzee?
Stay@Gouwzee accommodates up to 4 guests. There is a double boxspring bed in the sleeping area and two single beds on the mezzanine. The dining area seats 4 people.
Is Stay@Gouwzee a hotel or a self-contained apartment?
Stay@Gouwzee is a self-contained holiday apartment, not a hotel. There is no reception, no shared lounge and no breakfast included by default. You stay completely independently, with your own entrance, kitchen and bathroom.

Yes. Stay@Gouwzee is at Middendam 4, 1141 BC Monnickendam, in the historic centre of Monnickendam. Shops, restaurants and the harbour are in that same centre, so most of it is within walking distance.

What is the sleeping layout?
Stay@Gouwzee has a sleeping area with a double boxspring bed and a mezzanine with two single beds. That is three beds in total, sleeping up to 4 people. The mezzanine is reached by a ladder.
Does Stay@Gouwzee have two bedrooms?
No. Stay@Gouwzee does not have two separate, enclosed bedrooms. There is a sleeping area with a double boxspring bed and an open mezzanine with two single beds. The mezzanine is an open sleeping space, not a lockable room.
How do you reach the sleeping mezzanine?
The sleeping mezzanine at Stay@Gouwzee is reached by a ladder. If the mezzanine is not used during your stay, the ladder can be removed.
Does the apartment have its own kitchen?
Yes. Stay@Gouwzee has a private kitchen that is not shared with anyone. You can cook, have breakfast and do the dishes whenever it suits you.
What kitchen appliances are available?
The kitchen at Stay@Gouwzee has a fridge with a freezer compartment, a 2-zone induction hob, a combination microwave, a dishwasher, a kettle and a Nespresso machine.
Does the apartment have a private bathroom?
Yes. Stay@Gouwzee has a private bathroom with a rain shower and a double washbasin. The bathroom is not shared with other guests.
Is the toilet separate?

Is the sleeping mezzanine suitable for children?
The sleeping mezzanine at Stay@Gouwzee is only reachable by ladder. Parents decide themselves whether that suits their child's age. If the mezzanine is not used, the ladder can be removed.
Check-in & check-out
From what time can I check in?
Check-in at Stay@Gouwzee is possible from 15:00. If you arrive in Monnickendam earlier, the historic centre and the harbour are within walking distance to explore first.
What time is check-out?
Check-out at Stay@Gouwzee is by 11:00 at the latest on your day of departure.
Can I check in by myself?
Yes. Guests of Stay@Gouwzee can check in independently from 15:00. You receive the necessary instructions in advance, so you are not tied to a fixed arrival appointment.
Can I be welcomed in person instead?
Yes. A personal welcome at Stay@Gouwzee is possible on request. Let us know in advance that you would like this and roughly what time you expect to arrive.
Parking & getting here
Can I park at Stay@Gouwzee?
The streets around Stay@Gouwzee are a blue zone. For longer parking, guests use Parkeerplaats Grote Kerk / 't Bolwerk, about a 5-minute walk away. Local parking rules are set by the municipality and can change.
How does the blue zone work?
In the blue zone around Stay@Gouwzee you may park for a maximum of 2 hours between 09:00-19:00, using a parking disc. Outside those hours the limit does not apply. The municipality can change these rules.
Where can I park for longer?
For long-stay parking during your stay at Stay@Gouwzee, use Parkeerplaats Grote Kerk / 't Bolwerk. From there it is about a 5-minute walk to the apartment.
Do I need a car during my stay?
That depends on your plans. The centre of Monnickendam, with its shops, restaurants and harbour, is within walking distance of Stay@Gouwzee. For destinations further away guests use a car, a bicycle or public transport.
Can I reach Stay@Gouwzee by public transport?
Yes. Monnickendam has bus connections with Amsterdam and other places in Waterland. Journey times and frequencies depend on the current timetable, so check an up-to-date journey planner.

Yes. Volendam is about 5 kilometres from Stay@Gouwzee and is a common day trip from Monnickendam by car, bicycle or public transport.
Can I visit Marken?
Yes. Marken is about 6 kilometres from Stay@Gouwzee. The former island is reached across the dike and guests often combine it with a visit to Volendam.
Is Waterland a good area to explore by bike or boat?
Yes. Waterland is a water-rich polder landscape around Monnickendam that is explored both by bicycle and over the water. Guests of Stay@Gouwzee can also rent our sloop Black Pearl for this.
Amsterdam
Is Stay@Gouwzee close to Amsterdam?
Amsterdam is about 14 kilometres from Stay@Gouwzee. By car that is roughly 20 minutes, depending on traffic.
Can I visit Amsterdam while staying in Monnickendam?
Yes. Many guests of Stay@Gouwzee combine a stay in Monnickendam with one or more days in Amsterdam. The city is about 14 kilometres away and can be reached by car or public transport.
Can I travel to Amsterdam by public transport?
Yes. Buses run from Monnickendam towards Amsterdam. Journey time and frequency depend on the current timetable, so plan your trip with an up-to-date journey planner.
Is Monnickendam an alternative to staying in Amsterdam?

How do I check availability?

Can I book directly?
Yes. Stay@Gouwzee can be booked directly through our own website, without a booking platform in between. That means you are in direct contact with us about your stay.
Is tourist tax paid separately?
Yes. Tourist tax is settled separately at Stay@Gouwzee and is not part of the accommodation rate. The rate is set by the municipality and can change annually; the current amount is shown with your reservation.
Is there a deposit?
Yes. A deposit of € 300 applies to a stay at Stay@Gouwzee. This is a commercial condition that can change; your reservation shows the conditions that apply at that moment.
Renting the sloop
Can I rent a sloop through Stay@Gouwzee?
Yes. Stay@Gouwzee rents out the sloop Black Pearl, an Admiral Yachts 575XL from 2014 based at Jachthaven Monnickendam. The sloop can also be rented without staying at the apartment.
